Evander Holyfield Challenges Mike Tyson To A Trilogy

Mike Tyson stepped into the ring at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, to face YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in a highly anticipated match streamed live on Netflix. The event was seen by 60 million households on the platform. As fans watched the clash, another heavyweight legend, Evander Holyfield, sparked headlines with his thoughts on Tyson and the possibility of a third showdown between the two icons.

Ahead of the fight, Holyfield humorously addressed Tyson’s infamous history, specifically the notorious “Bite Fight” where Tyson bit off a piece of Holyfield’s ear in 1997. “I don’t think Tyson is going to bite anyone in the ring ever again,” the 62-year-old joked.

In an interview shared by Netflix’s Strong Black Lead account on X (formerly Twitter), Holyfield was asked a question that many boxing enthusiasts have long pondered: Would you face Tyson in the ring one more time?

“I’m ready, you know,” Holyfield responded confidently. “It ain’t a problem.”

Holyfield holds a pivotal place in Tyson’s career. He ended Tyson’s eight-fight winning streak in November 1996 during their first bout and emerged victorious again in their controversial 1997 rematch, which went down in boxing history as one of the sport’s most infamous moments.

TYSON VS. HOLYFIELD’S ICONIC RIVALRY

Although Holyfield retired from sanctioned boxing in 2011, his last exhibition match took place in September 2021, where he faced former UFC champion Vitor Belfort and lost via TKO in the first round. His career record stands at an impressive 44 wins (29 by knockout) and 10 losses.

Following Tyson’s recent unanimous decision loss to Jake Paul in their eight-round fight, Holyfield reached out on Instagram with a message that ignited speculation. He shared a mockup fight flyer featuring himself and Tyson, captioned, “The fans want it 🥊 #unfinishedbusiness.”

Tyson, now 58, responded warmly: “I love you, brother, but the trilogy is our friendship.”

While the idea of a third Tyson-Holyfield bout excites fans, Tyson’s comment seems to firmly close the door on a potential rematch. For now, it seems the legendary rivalry will remain a cherished chapter in boxing history, while their enduring friendship takes center stage.
