Order of Ontario Recipient Entertainment Icon Dwayne Morgan Celebrates 32 Years in the Industry with 5 Exciting Shows

Toronto, On – Canadian Spoken Word artist, Order of Ontario recipient, author, and two-time Canadian National Poetry Slam Champion, Dwayne Morgan along with special guests, takes the stage for five exciting shows, November 5, 12, 19, 22, & 26.  Performances take place at ConTXT By Trane, 254 Lansdowne at 8pm and ‘When Brothers Speak’ at the Saint Lawrence Center for The Arts. 

This is Morgan’s first set of shows since receiving the Order of Ontario an award attributed in part to Morgan’s promotion of the positive artistic contributions of African Canadian and urban influenced artists.  Morgan began his career as a spoken word artist in 1993 and founded Up From The Roots Entertainment in 1994 to help and support fellow artists.  The November 2025 shows are an example of that progress.  The series of shows are a celebration of artistic talent and a testament to Morgan’s commitment to creating stages for fellow performers.

Dwayne Morgan is a Canadian icon.  His reputation as a spoken word phenomenon is respected by audiences across the country. Morgan has traveled across Canada, the United States, Jamaica, Uganda, Turkey, England, Scotland, Belgium, Budapest, Germany, France, Norway, Ghana, and Holland etc.  Shifter Magazine put the spoken word artist on its list of outstanding Black men in Canada.   Morgan was inducted into the Scarborough Walk of Fame and received both the African Canadian Achievement Award, and the Harry Jerome Award for Excellence in the Arts.  Truly humbled by the success his passion has brought him, Morgan is dedicated to helping fellow artists share their talents with audiences around the country.  Visibility is necessary.  He has performed for Barack Obama, former Governor General of Canada, Michaëlle Jean, shared the stage with Russell Peters, opened for Alicia Keys, recorded with Canadian artists, including Drake and performed at Super Bowl 46.  Morgan knows the importance of keeping your craft moving forward.   He is the founder and co -producer of the Toronto Spoken Soul Festival.  With an impressive ten Albums, including a spoken word Christmas album, Silent Night it’s fair to say Morgan has earned his seat at the table.   His work ethic drives his success and has made him a sought-after member of Toronto’s urban music community, as well as the North American and Global spoken word scenes.  Dwayne Morgan’s November series of shows are a platform and a step toward building a legacy of bringing arts into the community that lasts for generations…. The poems in the key of life series sees Dwayne working with a different pianist for each show to see how they interpret his work, and how they can collaborate together. Part 1 features Jazz pianist, Thompson Egbo-Egbo with opening performance by singer Dario Dvon.

Back Chat.  Back Chat creates a unique experience for its performers and audience. This Spoken Word Poetry showcase features performances from Patrick De Belen, A.G., Patrick Walters, Shelly Grace, and Scribe. After each performance, the artist will engage in a Q&A with the audience.

When Brothers Speak 2025
North America’s largest and longest running annual showcase of Black male spoken word artists. Founded in 1999, it brings together artists from both sides of the border to share on the Black experience. The 2025 showcase will feature Ontario Poet Laureate, Testament, former Ontario Poet Laureate, Randell Adjei, Cloud (New Jersey), Tebe Zalango (Illinois) and Scribe, hosted and curated by Dwayne Morgan.
