Drake Trolls DeMar DeRozan During Raptors Game
Drake isn’t ready to let go of his grudge against former Raptors star DeMar DeRozan.
While attending the Toronto Raptors‘ game against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night, Drake took the opportunity to poke fun at DeRozan. He was present at the game to witness the retirement of Vince Carter’s jersey, a memorable moment for Raptors fans. But when the conversation shifted to the possibility of honoring DeRozan, who played for the team from 2009 to 2018, Drake quickly dismissed the idea.
Reflecting on Carter’s tribute, Drake commented, “It’s unfortunate we’re playing this goof tonight,” in reference to DeRozan. He then joked, “If you ever put up a DeRozan banner, I’ll go up there and pull it down myself.” The playful jab came on the heels of DeRozan’s recent appearance in Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” music video, as well as his attendance at Lamar’s Pop Out concert in Los Angeles.
Over the summer, DeRozan shared his perspective on his friendship with Drake in an interview with the Sacramento Bee. Despite the teasing, DeRozan spoke warmly about the Toronto rapper, saying, “Drake’s still my man, none of it changed.” He went on to add, “It’s music, it’s entertainment… Two of the biggest rappers went at it competitively, and that’s what fans love to see. It’s like watching Kobe play Jordan 1-on-1—there’s trash talk, but it’s all part of the fun.”
