Drake Says He’s Financially Supporting Young Thug in His Fight Against RICO Charges

Toronto Rapper Top5 recently got released from prison and thanked Drake for financial assistance.

Now it appears Atlanta native Young Thug is getting the same treatment. The rapper is known for his unique style and has collaborated with many of the biggest names in music over the past decade. However, his career has taken a significant hit due to a RICO charge. Since 2022, the rapper has been embroiled in a trial that could lead to a sentence of five to 20 years in prison if convicted. While several of his peers have voiced their support on social media, Drake has made it clear that he’s going beyond just words. The Toronto megastar revealed on Instagram that he’s financially backing Young Thug in his legal battle.

On October 10, Drake posted a selfie on Instagram, pulling his signature duck face, but his caption carried a more serious message. “I’m not just talking for the sake of it,” he wrote. “I’m really putting 🥖on the 💼 3 Jeff.” Though he didn’t refer to Young Thug by his stage name, the mention of “Jeff” (Young Thug’s real name) and the emojis made his intentions clear. Drake didn’t specify how much money he’s contributing or how it’s being used, but his track record suggests he’s a man of his word.

Top5 was thankful to Drake for helping him with legal fees after being released from prison. “Shoutout big bro @champagnepapi for the Lawyer Fees & Gary Grill for being the best lawyer in Toronto,” Top5 wrote on Instagram.

DRAKE’S EYES ARE ON THE TRIAL

Drake has been keeping a close eye on Young Thug’s legal situation for some time. Earlier this year, he expressed frustration when a private phone call between Young Thug and his girlfriend, Mariah the Scientist, was leaked. During a live stream with Akademiks, Drake commented, “This is disgraceful… there’s gotta be some form of jail misconduct. You can’t drag a talented man through this and then let your staff use his personal life for their own benefit.”

In addition to his financial support, Drake has also been showing love musically. He featured on two tracks from BUSINESS IS BUSINESS, Young Thug’s latest album, and addressed Thug’s legal troubles on his recent song, “It’s Up.” On the track, Drake shares his concerns about Thug’s well-being, rapping, “I can’t sleep at night with Thug at Cobb County Corrections. I think he’s done enough reflecting, I think my brother’s learned his lesson.”

The two rappers have had a strong working relationship dating back to 2017. Their biggest hit together, “Way 2 Sexy,” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2021, which remains Young Thug’s last chart-topping single.
