Dr. Dre Says Sting Will Make Appearance On Snoop’s New Album
Dr. Dre has heightened the anticipation for his and Snoop Dogg’s upcoming album, Missionary, calling it “some of the best music” he’s ever created.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight following his recent Olympics performance, the iconic producer shared more insights about the eagerly awaited project, expressing confidence that it will be another standout in his already impressive discography.
When asked about working on Missionary compared to Snoop’s 1993 debut, Doggystyle, which Dre also produced, he reflected: “It was much more fun back then, to be honest, because we were just kids. Snoop was probably 18 or 19 years old, and I’m about six years older than him, so we were young at the time.
SEQUEL TO DOGGY STYLE ALBUM
“This new album will showcase a different level of maturity in both his lyrics and my music. I truly believe this is some of the best music I’ve done in my career […] I’m not playing.”
Dre continued: “The musicians and writers I’m working with right now are incredible. Snoop is really excited about this, and so am I. I think people are going to love it.”
He also revealed that they’re close to finishing the album and are targeting a November release, which would align with the 31st anniversary of Doggystyle on November 23.
“As soon as we wrap up here, I have to head downstairs and start mixing. I wanted 14 songs, Snoop wants 16, so we’re working that out [bumps his fists together],” he said. “I’m on mix number 11 right now. I need to have everything done and delivered by September 1st to hit the November release.”
Dre hinted at a high-profile guest appearance on Missionary and teased a star-studded lineup that might include himself. “I actually did a couple of tracks; I’m not sure if one of them will make the final cut. I produced the whole album, but vocally, I think only one track with me might make it,” he revealed.
“There’s one track featuring Sting. The roster of artists on this album is amazing. I probably shouldn’t have let that slip.”
Snoop Dogg first announced Missionary during an appearance on Stephen A. Smith’s Know Mercy podcast in 2022.
“You’re the first to hear this: Dr. Dre and I have been working on an album for the past two months,” Snoop told the sports commentator. “It’s produced by Dr. Dre, and it’s our 30th anniversary of Doggystyle. The album is called Missionary.”
