Diddy Reportedly Under Suicide Watch In Prison
Sean “Diddy” Combs is reportedly on suicide watch at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) as he awaits trial, sources tell PEOPLE.
The 54-year-old music mogul was arrested on the night of Monday, Sept. 16, at a Manhattan hotel. The following day, the unsealed indictment revealed charges against him, including sex trafficking, racketeering, and transporting individuals for prostitution.
After pleading not guilty, Combs was denied bail twice and remanded to MDC on Tuesday, Sept. 17. It remains unclear whether Combs is suicidal or how long he has been on suicide watch, but sources say the measures are precautionary as Combs is reportedly in shock, and his mental state remains uncertain.
The U.S. Department of Justice’s National Institute of Corrections describes suicide watch as a protocol requiring frequent observation for at-risk inmates.

PEOPLE contacted the Bureau of Prisons and the Southern District of New York (SDNY) for comment. During a court hearing, Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, requested that his client be transferred to a facility in Essex County, New Jersey, but the decision is currently in the hands of the Bureau of Prisons.
MDC, which houses 1,600 inmates, is known for dangerous conditions and understaffing, with a history of deaths and suicides. Combs’ legal team argued in their bail request that “several courts in this District have recognized that the conditions at the Metropolitan Detention Center are not suitable for pre-trial detention,” according to The Daily Beast.
“Just this summer, an inmate was murdered,” the attorneys noted. “In the past three years, at least four inmates have died by suicide at the facility.” PEOPLE also reached out to Combs’ attorneys for further comment.
