Diddy Ordered To Pay Inmate $100 Million After Default Judgement
In a significant legal blow to Sean “Diddy” Combs, a Michigan inmate has been awarded a $100 million default judgment in a sexual assault case against the music mogul, who has faced numerous sexual misconduct allegations over the past year.
According to reports from Detroit’s Metro Times and court documents, the judgment was issued Monday by a Lenawee County Circuit Court Judge, following a temporary restraining order against Combs granted to Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith, 51. Cardello-Smith, described as a “Michigan inmate known for his extensive history of filing civil lawsuits against the judicial system,” accused Combs of drugging and sexually assaulting him at a 1997 party in Detroit. The judge has ordered Combs to pay $10 million monthly, beginning October 1.
The default judgment was issued after Sean Combs failed to appear for a virtual court hearing on Monday. Cardello-Smith, currently serving an unrelated sentence, is a self-taught legal scholar who has frequently challenged the judicial system with civil and criminal filings.
Cardello-Smith alleges that in August, Combs offered him $2.3 million to drop the lawsuit, an offer he declined, opting instead to move forward with the legal proceedings. Cardello-Smith claims Combs responded, “You know how we get down,” to which he replied, “I disagree with how you get down.”
While Combs has denied most of the sexual misconduct allegations against him, he admitted in June to assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura after footage from a 2016 incident in a hotel was leaked. Combs publicly apologized, admitting he was “messed up” at the time.
