Did They Just Try To JFK Donald Trump?

John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, was assassinated on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas.

On July 13th, 2024 Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States, was shot at during a rally, but Secret Service says he is safe. President Biden has spoken to former President Trump, a White House official told the Reuters news agency. Biden earlier denounced the shooting, calling it “sick”.

His campaign has said that he will be pausing political activity and pulling down television advertisements. Trump says he was “shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part” of his right ear. Secret Service says its personnel killed the suspected shooter; one spectator has been killed and two others critically injured in the shooting.

THE SHOOTING OF PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN

Politicians from across the spectrum offer support to Trump, with President Joe Biden saying “there’s no place for this kind of violence” in the US. Many online are comparing the incident to other times in history when Presidents have been shot at such as Ronald Reagan and John F. Kennedy.

Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States, was shot on March 30, 1981, in Washington, D.C., in an assassination attempt by John Hinckley Jr. One of the bullets ricocheted off the presidential limousine and struck Reagan in the chest, puncturing a lung and causing serious internal bleeding.

White House Press Secretary James Brady was shot in the head, suffering severe brain damage that left him permanently disabled. Secret Service agent Tim McCarthy was shot in the abdomen while shielding Reagan. Washington D.C. police officer Thomas Delahanty was shot in the neck.

THE ASSASSINATION OF PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY

John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, was assassinated on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. He was shot while riding in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza. Kennedy was in an open-top limousine with First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, Texas Governor John Connally, and Connally’s wife, Nellie.

As the motorcade passed the Texas School Book Depository, shots rang out. Kennedy was struck by two bullets: one in the upper back and one in the head. Governor Connally was also seriously injured.

Lee Harvey Oswald, an employee at the Texas School Book Depository, was arrested later that day. He was charged with the assassination of President Kennedy. Oswald denied the charges, claiming he was a “patsy.”

ONLINE REACTIONS

Many people have jumped on social media and have compared Donald Trump to hip hop legends who have survived shootings such as Tupac Shakur and 50 Cent. The former President Barack Obama also relayed the message that violence is not accepted in politics despite his rivalry with the leader of the Republican party.
