Death Row Records Co-Founder Harry-O Rebuilds Community After 33 Years in Prison
From his days with Death Row Records and Suge Knight to coastal rivalries and connections with Denzel Washington and Snoop Dogg, Michael “Harry-O” Harris’s story is one of dramatic transformation. The former street kingpin has shifted gears, emerging from his past to become a driving force for positive change in both the Hip-Hop world and the broader community.
Since his release from prison three years ago, after serving 33 years, Harris has embraced a new mission. Once known for founding Death Row Records alongside Suge Knight and Dr. Dre, using money earned from his past lifestyle, he’s now focused on a different path—one centered on unity and progress.
In a conversation with AllHipHop founders Chuck “Jigsaw” Creekmur and Grouchy Greg Watkins, Harris outlined his vision. He recently organized a concert in Detroit featuring Rick Ross and Trick Trick, two artists who were once rivals, as a symbol of community strength.
“I believe we too often find ways to divide ourselves,” Harris said. “Community First is about coming together, moving beyond the past, and focusing on bigger opportunities.”
