Chromazz Responds To Charleston White Saying He Hates His Race

Toronto rapper, Chromazz, jumped on a social media stream by Adin Ross and offended Charleston White.

Chromazz is known for getting into altercations with others online such as Brooklyn Tea Talk, DJ Akademiks, and even other Toronto rappers like Top5. The social media personality, White (46 years old), tried to educate Chromazz on why she shouldn’t being using the N word. Things got heated between the two as Chromazz did not back off from the usage of the word. The interaction got picked up by various social media outlets across North America.

Chromazz has taken to her own Instagram account and posted what she believes is a proper response to the backlash. Acknowledging that she is indeed not black after getting dm’ed by people following her and from social media in general. Stating that she is “a product of her environment,” Chromazz felt no need to stop using the word.

CHROMAZZ ACCUSES CHARLESTON WHITE OF HATING HIS OWN RACE

Chromazz accuses Charleston White of hating his own race due to the commentary that seemed to be derogatory to African Americans.

His YouTube channel was banned in September 2023 for violating YouTube’s community regulations. At the time of the ban, the channel had 241 thousand subscribers. In addition to that, he has a podcast, The Game Related Podcast, created on 5 January 2023.

HISTORY OF THE N WORD

Despite the word being used heavily in art forms of movies, television, and music, the N word has been problematic for decades. Malcolm Jamal-Warner has stated his disdain for the usage of the word in the world of hip hop.

A BBC report stated, the first documented arrival of slaves in the US, and the Africans were referred to using the Spanish and Portuguese words for black – which is where the word comes from.

“It’s really tied into the idea that African people aren’t really human beings,” says Kehinde Andrews, professor of black studies at Birmingham City University.

“They were more like an animal than a human being, a beast of burden, could be bought and sold, could be thrown overboard ships and literally had no rights.

“So when the N-word is used that’s essentially what it’s used for. So I would hope most people would understand why that is deeply offensive and problematic because it still is used in that context now.”

TUPAC SHAKUR DEFINITION OF HIP HOP’S USE OF THE WORD

Tupac Shakur, who was born from a mother who fought for African American rights with the Black Panthers, gave his reasoning for using the word. He believed that the word was flipped from its original meaning and pronounced slightly different.

Regardless on where one stands on the issue, it will continue to be a contentious word to some, while being a word of endearment in other avenues.

ONLINE REACTIONS

The internet for the most part was not buying what she was selling in terms of her reasoning. One X formerly Twitter user stated:

She’ll never come to America and say it around Black people that’s how you know she knows she shouldn’t be saying it. She’s basically saying she can’t think for herself. She’s just talking in a way that think makes her cool.
