Boyz II Men Biopic Is In The Works About Iconic Group
A feature biopic about the iconic R&B group Boyz II Men is officially in the works, marking the start of a new journey to bring their story to the big screen. Boyz II Men, composed of Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Wanyá Morris (with former member Michael McCary, who left in 2003 due to health issues), has teamed up with Compelling Pictures and Primary Wave to develop the project according to Variety. Producers are now engaging with potential writers and directors to bring the vision to life.
Formed in 1985, Boyz II Men soared to fame in the 1990s with timeless hits like “Motownphilly,” “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday,” “End of the Road,” “I’ll Make Love to You,” and “On Bended Knee.” They also collaborated on the chart-topping song “One Sweet Day” with Mariah Carey, further solidifying their place in music history.
PRODUCTION TEAM & EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS
The production team includes Denis O’Sullivan and Jeff Kalligheri for Compelling Pictures, Larry Mestel for Primary Wave, Joe Mulvihill for the Mulvi Group, and Jeremy M. Rosen for Roxwell Films. Meanwhile, Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Wanyá Morris will serve as executive producers alongside Ori Allon, Dennis Casali, and Steven Garcia.
“We’ve been waiting to find the right partners who understand our story and are willing to tell it all,” Nathan Morris said in a statement. “Denis and Jeff at Compelling Pictures understood us from day one.”
The Compelling team echoed the sentiment, sharing, “As lifelong fans of Boyz II Men, and after years of friendship with the guys, it’s a privilege to bring their unique and untold story to film. We’re excited to capture the brotherhood and camaraderie, along with the challenges, humor, and heartbreak, that defined their journey to unparalleled success.”
This Boyz II Men biopic joins an ongoing trend in Hollywood, where music biopics remain a top priority. Following recent successes like Paramount’s Bob Marley: One Love, and upcoming releases like A Complete Unknown featuring Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan, Hollywood has more projects planned, with films on the Beatles, Madonna, the Bee Gees, Queen Latifah, and Sublime also in development.
Among Compelling Pictures’ other projects is The Collaboration, starring Paul Bettany and Jeremy Pope.
