Despite his historically rocky relationship with his daughter Coi Leray, Benzino recently expressed joy and excitement over the news that she is expecting a child with rapper Trippie Redd. In an interview with RealLyfe Productions, the former Love & Hip Hop star shared his candid thoughts on becoming a grandfather.

“I’m Going to Be a Granddad”

Benzino revealed his surprise at the news, stating, “I’m going to be a granddad. Ain’t that something? I think I found out when the world found out. It feels kind of surreal.” He reflected on the timing, noting that he’s approaching his 60th birthday and had never imagined it would take this long to experience this milestone.

“My son just told me his girl is pregnant too,” he continued. “He’s my oldest, and he and Coi are just three years apart. It’s surreal—I can’t believe it. It’s going to be interesting, but I’m excited for this new chapter.”

Zino Gives Take On Trippie Redd

When asked about Trippie Redd, Benzino admitted he hasn’t met him yet. “I don’t know enough about [Trippie], you know? I’ve never met him personally, but I’ve heard a few of his songs,” he said. “I don’t judge people based on the Internet, because Lord knows I hate when they do it to me.”

Still, he extended his congratulations to the couple. “My daughter’s having a baby by Trippie Redd. Like, wow, huh? I mean, I’m going to be a hell of a grandfather, you know what I’m saying?” Benzino added that this new role could help his children better understand the responsibilities of parenting while working in the entertainment industry.

Reflecting on His Relationship with Coi Leray

While Benzino expressed pride and excitement, he acknowledged that his relationship with Coi Leray remains strained. He shared that they don’t communicate often and that he found out about her pregnancy at the same time as the public.

“I didn’t get to hear it directly from her, and yeah, that’s kind of s***ty, but it is what it is,” he admitted. Benzino hopes to eventually meet Trippie Redd and expressed a desire for the couple to consider marriage for the sake of their child.

Despite the distance in their relationship, Benzino is choosing to focus on the positives. “This is the most beautiful thing that could ever happen to them,” he said. “I’m proud of her, and I’m just happy to be here for this moment.”
