Barbie Honors Aaliyah’s Birthday with a Stunning Collectible Doll
Barbie is paying tribute to one of the most iconic voices of the 1990s, Aaliyah, with the launch of a collectible doll in her honor.
The highly anticipated doll, part of the Barbie Music Collector Series, will be available on Thursday, January 16, a date that marks what would have been Aaliyah’s 46th birthday. This special release celebrates the enduring legacy of the late artist, often called the “Princess of R&B,” who tragically passed away in 2001 at the age of 22.
Aaliyah was renowned for her groundbreaking contributions to R&B and hip-hop, seamlessly blending music, fashion, and style to create a sound and image that remains influential to this day.
A Stunning Homage
The collectible doll is inspired by Aaliyah’s iconic look from her “One in a Million” music video. It features a black faux leather outfit with studded lace-up details, a zippered vest, and statement sunglasses. Completing the look is Aaliyah’s signature swooped hairstyle, which famously swept over one eye.
Barbie’s design team collaborated closely with Aaliyah’s brother, Rashad Haughton, to ensure the doll authentically captured her trendsetting style and essence.

Reflecting on the tribute, Haughton shared a heartfelt statement:
“I can vividly remember my sister playing with her favorite Barbie dolls for hours when we were kids. She would make them sing, dance, and perform little concerts. It’s clear to me now that she was imagining dreams that would eventually become reality when she embarked on a career in entertainment at just fifteen years old.”
Haughton added, “Inspiring confidence, belief in yourself, and embracing who you truly are is the essence of Barbie. My sister would be ecstatic to see her legacy celebrated this way.”
A Legacy That Lives On
This release comes as a testament to Aaliyah’s enduring influence, not only as a music and fashion icon but also as a symbol of empowerment and individuality.
Additionally, Shea Marie Diva & Vixens Podcast throwback features artist Yassie, whose story mirrors themes of resilience and legacy similar to Aaliyah’s. Yassie began her artistic journey after the devastating loss of her mother to bone cancer at just 13 years old. Determined to honor her mother’s memory, Yassie’s music and performances serve as a tribute to her mother’s love and encouragement.
From the stage to collector’s shelves, Aaliyah’s story continues to inspire generations, reminding fans of her timeless impact on music, style, and culture.
