Attorney General Rejects Tory Lanez’s “Relevant Evidence” in Meg Case

It appears Tory Lanez will serve his full sentence.

There has been a significant update regarding the “relevant evidence” Tory Lanez recently claimed to have. To recap, the rapper from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, requested the California court to consider a statement from his driver, Jauquan Smith, who witnessed the crime. Lanez hoped Smith’s testimony, which suggested that Megan’s friend Kelsey Harris was holding the gun, would help reduce his 10-year sentence. Initially, the court agreed to review the evidence, marking a small victory for the “Prison Tapes” artist. However, this win was short-lived, as the California Attorney General’s Office has now rejected the evidence, according to HipHopDX.

In Smith’s affidavit, he stated that he did not clearly recall who shot Megan Thee Stallion. Deputy Attorney General Michael C. Keller made the decision to dismiss Lanez’s evidence in an informal response yesterday. Keller was influenced by a previously undisclosed statement from Lanez’s former lawyer, George Mgdesyan.

Tory Lanez’s Driver Deemed Not a “Helpful Witness

Keller and the state determined that Smith’s testimony was not reliable since Mgdesyan did not call Smith to testify in 2022. They anticipated that Smith would claim Kelsey was holding the gun. “His testimony is going to put the gun in Kelsey’s hands,” Keller said. Additionally, Smith’s claim of not knowing who pulled the trigger does “not directly contradict [Megan]’s testimony that petitioner [Lanez] was the person who shot her.” Keller also noted that other evidence, such as a DNA test and text messages, strongly suggests that Lanez was the shooter.
