Angie Stone’s Family Releases Statement as Details of Fatal Car Crash Unfold
Angie Stone, a pioneering figure in the fusion of hip-hop and R&B, leaves behind a lasting musical legacy.
The music industry is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Stone, a neo-soul trailblazer known for seamlessly blending hip-hop and R&B. She tragically passed away at the age of 63 following a car accident in Alabama during the early hours of Saturday, March 1. As news of her passing spread, tributes poured in from fans, fellow artists, and public figures across social media. While her family initially requested privacy, they have now shared a statement regarding her passing.
According to 11Alive, the statement was released on Monday, March 3, through Atlanta-based law firm Weems Firm.
“With heavy hearts, the children of R&B singer Angie Stone, along with her extended family, want to thank everyone for their love and well wishes during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read. “Angie was an inspiration to Black women and girls everywhere, and she also uplifted and championed Black men, as reflected in her hit song ‘Brotha.’ She was deeply committed to giving back to her fans and the community through her foundation, Angel Stripes, the Angie Stone Foundation. She lived and died doing what she loved most—music. Her unwavering faith in God guided her, and she had a profound desire to share that faith and bring others closer to Christ.”
Details of the Car Accident
Additional information has emerged about the tragic accident. According to the Associated Press, Stone was traveling in a 2021 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with several passengers, returning from a performance in Alabama to Atlanta. The Alabama Highway Patrol reported that the vehicle overturned on Interstate 65 around 4:25 a.m. on Saturday, March 1. Moments later, a 33-year-old Texas man driving a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia truck collided with the Sprinter. While others in the vehicle survived, Stone tragically lost her life.
