Lillie Coley Accuses Jay-Z of Manipulating Courts After Paternity Case Dismissal
The legal saga surrounding claims that Jay-Z fathered New Jersey man Rymir Satterthwaite continues to escalate—despite the most recent case being dismissed in California. According to new filings, Rymir Satterthwaite’s legal guardian and godmother Lillie Coley insists the battle is far from over and now alleges that the rap icon’s legal team manipulated court rulings to unfairly sanction her.
Background: Years of Disputes and Denials
For more than a decade, Satterthwaite has attempted to bring forward a paternity case, arguing that Jay-Z is his biological father. The Roc Nation mogul has denied the allegation repeatedly, and multiple courts have declined to move the case forward due to jurisdiction issues and procedural roadblocks.
Earlier this year, Satterthwaite voluntarily dismissed his California lawsuit. Coley then attempted to revive the matter herself in California, but the case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning she cannot refile without risking legal penalties.
Coley’s New Allegations in Federal Court
Despite the setback, Coley has launched new claims—this time in New Jersey federal court. According to documents obtained by AllHipHop’s Grouchy Greg Watkins, Coley argues that:
-
Jay-Z’s legal team misused old New Jersey rulings to justify the dismissal of her California case.
-
The sanctions now being pursued against her in New Jersey—up to $50,000—are based on jurisdictional reasoning she believes is invalid.
-
The New Jersey court previously acknowledged it lacked jurisdiction in the paternity matter between 2012 and 2017, when the original state case came to an end.
Coley claims the court is suddenly acting again for the first time since 2017 and that these sanctions place her finances and property at risk.
Accusations of Legal Manipulation
In her latest filing, Coley alleges that Jay-Z strategically returned to New Jersey earlier this year specifically to influence the outcome of the revived California case.
“After Plaintiff filed the present action in this Court in May 2025, Defendant Shawn Corey Carter returned to New Jersey in August 2025 for the specific purpose of attempting to block Plaintiff and Mr. Satterthwaite from pursuing their California claims,” the filing states.
She also asserts that new child-support-related findings bolster her belief that Jay-Z was involved in shaping the court’s response.
What Happens Next?
It remains unclear how either the California or New Jersey courts will respond to Coley’s latest motions. What is clear is that she intends to keep pursuing legal action—despite multiple dismissed cases, repeated jurisdiction issues, and the threat of substantial sanctions.
Jay-Z has not publicly responded to Coley’s newest allegations, and no judge has yet ruled on her accusations of legal manipulation.
As this long-running paternity dispute enters yet another chapter, the courts will ultimately decide whether Coley’s claims have merit or whether this marks another legal dead end in the saga.
