Ming Li: The Blessing and the Curse of Being Nicki Minaj’s Sister
“I used to feel scared because everyone was watching me. Now, I just want to show people that I’m growing.” — Ming Li
At just 19 years old, Ming Li has already lived through the double-edged reality of fame. As the younger sister of global rap phenomenon Nicki Minaj, Ming’s life has been shaped by both privilege and pressure—by the weight of a famous name and the expectations that come with it.
“It’s a Blessing and a Curse”
“Before, when I was younger, I felt more pressure because a lot of people were looking at me,” Ming recalled. “Now, I wouldn’t call it privilege—it’s more like a blessing and a curse.”
She describes the constant need to carry herself carefully. “If I curse somebody out or react to something, I have to do it in a way that doesn’t make me—or my family—look bad. Cameras are always watching.”
Bullied for Her Sister’s Fame
Growing up, Ming faced harsh treatment from classmates. “They made fun of my Jordans, my hair, my clothes,” she said. “They thought I should be in designer stuff because of who my sister is.”
But Ming’s parents wanted her to stay grounded. “My dad didn’t want me to feel cocky,” she said. “They raised me to be humble. That’s just how we are.”
She laughs looking back now: “They used to bully me, but now they see me doing my thing. I’m like, y’all can suck my dick now—because I’m right here!”
Finding Her Own Identity
Ming’s upbringing in a loving Caribbean household kept her connected to her roots. “We didn’t come from money,” she said. “We came from love, from family. That’s what I value most.”
She’s also a performer in her own right. “I used to sing, do choir, and Broadway,” she shared proudly. “My parents always supported me. That made me want to keep pushing.”
“I want to inspire other kids to do what they love,” Ming said. “You don’t need money or fame to be happy—just passion.”
Rising Above Hate and Finding Grace
Now more self-aware than ever, Ming is learning to navigate public life with maturity. “It’s okay to make mistakes,” she said. “You just have to learn from them. And don’t read the comments—trust me.”
As she steps into her own spotlight, Ming Li isn’t just Nicki Minaj’s sister—she’s a young woman defining her own story, her own rhythm, and her own power.
