Hip-Hop Faces Lowest Spotify Global Chart Presence in 2025

Despite strong album releases in 2025, hip-hop is facing a troubling trend on the commercial front: its lowest representation ever on Spotify’s Daily Global Chart.

Rapper Joey Bada$$ recently argued that 2025 is one of the genre’s strongest years in recent memory—possibly the best of the 2020s. He pointed to standout projects from Westside Gunn, JID, Clipse, Larry June & 2 Chainz, Chance the Rapper, and Freddie Gibbs with The Alchemist as proof of the culture’s artistic strength.

However, streaming data paints a different picture. According to Hip Hop All Day, only four rap tracks are currently among the top 200 songs on Spotify’s Global Chart. For comparison, exactly five years ago, 56 rap tracks held spots on the same chart.

This marks the weakest performance for hip-hop since the chart’s creation nine years ago. Even more concerning, the four entries are all older releases rather than new 2025 hits.

The Four Charting Songs:

  • The Weeknd & Playboi Carti — “Timeless” (2024) | #41

  • Kendrick Lamar & SZA — “All The Stars” (2018) | #63

  • Tyler, The Creator & Kali Uchis — “See You Again” (2017) | #78

  • Don Toliver — “No Pole” (2023) | #121

While Drake’s “NOKIA” and GELO’s “Tweaker” briefly made noise earlier this year, no rap single has maintained long-term dominance in 2025.

Looking Ahead: Can Hip-Hop Rebound?

The remainder of the year could shift the narrative. Anticipated releases include:

  • Cardi B — AM I THE DRAMA?

  • Young Thug — UY SCUTI

  • Drake — ICEMAN

  • Playboi Carti — BABY BOI (rumored)

Other big names expected to deliver projects include Roddy Ricch, Doja Cat, and Ty Dolla $ign.

With just over two months left in 2025, the question remains: will any of these upcoming drops produce the kind of global streaming smash that restores hip-hop’s dominance on Spotify’s charts?
