Kama Reflects on Drake Tension and Accuses Jim Jones of Stealing His Style
Toronto rapper Kama sat down with WorldWide Entertainment TV to break down his three intense interactions with Drake, and share his thoughts on Jim Jones allegedly copying his signature look. The revelations shed new light on untold stories within the Toronto hip hop scene and its influence on global culture.
Early Encounters with Drake
According to Kama, his history with Drake dates back to their high school days. The “6 God” reportedly used to pass through Kama’s neighborhood, showing mutual respect in those early years. However, as Drake’s fame skyrocketed, the dynamic shifted. Kama recounts three specific moments where the interactions became “tense,” suggesting a level of hesitancy or even avoidance on Drake’s part.
“There were moments where it felt like the energy changed,” Kama explained. “It wasn’t beef, but it wasn’t brotherly either.”
Though Kama stops short of outright calling it a falling out, he makes it clear that the relationship is far from close, hinting that industry politics and gatekeeping may have played a role in the distance.
Calling Out Jim Jones: “That Was My Look”
Kama also took the opportunity to call out Dipset icon Jim Jones, claiming the Harlem rapper borrowed his streetwear aesthetic and delivery style during a time when Toronto fashion was still underground.
“It was crazy seeing someone on BET rocking the same vibe I’d been doing here for years,” Kama noted. “From the braids to the rugged designer drip—that was us. Toronto.”
While Jim Jones has not responded to these claims, Kama’s comments raise important questions about style appropriation and the uncredited influence of Canadian artists in the global hip hop scene.
Toronto Hip Hop’s Unwritten Chapters
Kama’s experiences offer a raw look into the unseen tension behind rap’s global success stories. Toronto has produced massive talent, but many local artists feel sidelined or overlooked despite laying foundational work.
The interview is a must-watch for anyone interested in hip hop authenticity, origin stories, and urban culture politics. As Toronto continues to evolve as a cultural hub, voices like Kama’s demand more space in the conversation.
