Snoop Dogg Reacts to Donald Trump’s Moves on NBA YoungBoy & Larry Hoover Cases

Hip hop icon Snoop Dogg is voicing his support after former U.S. President Donald Trump made headlines again in the hip hop community — this time for pardoning NBA YoungBoy and commuting the federal sentence of Larry Hoover, the co-founder of the Gangster Disciples.

Snoop Dogg Supports Redemption for NBA YoungBoy and Larry Hoover

Speaking with TMZ Hip-Hop, the West Coast rap legend applauded the legal relief given to the two men. Snoop, who has softened his stance on Donald Trump in recent years, made it clear that he’s backing both NBA YoungBoy and Larry Hoover in their respective journeys toward redemption.

“I got a chance to get real close with [YoungBoy] years ago,” Snoop said. “I look at him like family. I know he’s gonna take the spirit and do the right thing—walk like he’s supposed to walk and be an example.”

Snoop added that NBA YoungBoy, whom he affectionately calls his “nephew,” has a chance to set a positive example for his massive young fanbase.

“There are so many young kids who follow him and wanna be like him. He’s got the opportunity to give them something real to look up to.”

NBA YoungBoy was recently pardoned for federal fraud charges, which had threatened to derail his rising career. The Louisiana-born rapper now has a clearer legal path ahead of him.

Trump’s Involvement in Larry Hoover’s Sentence

As for Larry Hoover, Trump’s commutation of his federal sentence—which originally included six life terms—has sparked confusion and debate. While some believed Hoover had been fully freed, he remains incarcerated due to a separate 200-year state sentence stemming from a 1973 murder conviction.

“That’s a beautiful thing for [Hoover] to be able to get out,” Snoop remarked. “If he needs support while trying to stop the violence in Chicago, I’m here.”

Snoop emphasized his commitment to ending gang violence and promoting peace, particularly in Chicago, where Hoover’s influence remains felt decades after the founding of the Gangster Disciples.

“I’m all in to try and bring some closure and some peace out there to brothers in Chicago and just end all gang violence around the globe,” Snoop declared.

Hoover’s Current Legal Status

Despite Trump’s commutation of Hoover’s federal sentence, he is not yet a free man. Hoover remains imprisoned at ADX Florence, a high-security federal prison in Colorado, where he’s been held since 1997. His state-level sentence in Illinois still stands, and any further release would require intervention from Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.

Hoover’s complex case continues to be a lightning rod for discussions around criminal justice reform, gang violence, and rehabilitation.

“That’s a beautiful thing for [Hoover] to be able to get out,” Snoop remarked. “If he needs support while trying to stop the violence in Chicago, I’m here.”
