50 Cent Prevails in $1 Billion Lawsuit Over ‘Power’

Judge Analisa Torres sided with 50 Cent, ruling that the show “Power” never directly refers to Cory “Ghost” Holland, which is necessary for a defamation claim. She also noted that other alleged similarities were mere coincidences. In another lawsuit, Holland accused 50 Cent and his associates of harassment and threats, claiming they played a song near his home.

According to AllHipHop, 50 Cent has won the $1 billion lawsuit brought by former drug kingpin Cory “Ghost” Holland, who alleged that 50 Cent stole his life story for the STARZ series “Power.” Holland initially filed the lawsuit in 2021, naming co-creator Courtney Kemp, STARZ, and Lionsgate, along with 50 Cent. Holland argued that he detailed his life story in a 2007 CD titled “Blasphemy,” which he sent to Kemp’s father, hoping it would help him leave the drug trade and earn a legitimate living.

HOLLAND’S THREATS

Following the alleged incident, AllHipHop obtained a letter from Holland warning 50 Cent not to threaten him again. The letter reads: “If a motherf**ker gets killed because your motherf**king client threaten me and my family, file a motherf**king motion for that. I ain’t playing with your motherf**king client no more, next time he or anyone he sends pull up, f**k the litigation.”

Holland lost that case as well, with Judge Torres ruling: “There is no indication that this conduct constituted a threat, much less an ‘imminent threat of harmful contact’ as required for an assault claim.”
